Season 4 Episode 11

Larry Martinez: Teacher, Principal, Sports and Leadership coach, courageously building strong communities using structure, consistency and accountability. Always supporting teachers and leaders.

Recognize that the world has only one you, just as you are, today you are uniquely made, and your gifts matter. Jessica N. Turner

We welcomed Larry Martinez on to the bridge today.

Larry has been on a life-long journey of teaching, mentoring and supporting the members of our schools and communities. He attributes his success to having great support from his teachers and mentors.

His process in creating successful, turnaround schools is to give teachers, students and parents the structure, accountability and ‘the will to practice’ (not just the will to win).

Perseverance and resilience are important traits leaders need to develop. Another word might be ‘grit’. Trust is built when these characteristics are witnessed. The ability to fail is an integral part of the learning process.

Larry’s list of teacher qualities are:

  • Know your content

  • Be adaptable

  • have a genuine love for kids

  • ask questions

He challenges us all to work toward identifying and supporting new teachers to join the teaching force. We need good teachers.

Larry, thanks so much for joining us on the bridge today. We hope to see you again soon.

Blessings,

Sue & Sandy
